Install VMware Tools บน Ubuntu Server

Ubuntu Server with only a Command Line Interface

  1. Go to Virtual Machine > Install VMware Tools (or VM > Install VMware Tools).Note: If you are running the light vesion of Fusion, or a version of Workstation without VMware Tools, or VMware Player, you are prompted to download the Tools before they can be installed. Click Download Now to begin the download.
  2. In the Ubuntu guest, run these commands:
    • sudo mkdir /mnt/cdrom 

      When prompted for a password, enter your Ubuntu admin user password.Note: For security reasons, the typed password is not displayed. You do not need to enter your password again for the next five minutes.

    • sudo mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom 

      The file name of the VMware Tools bundle varies depending on your version of the VMware product. Run this command to find the exact name:

    • ls /mnt/cdrom 
    • tar xzvf /mnt/cdrom/VMwareTools-<x.x.x-xxxx>.tar.gz -C /tmp/

      Note: <x.x.x-xxxx> is the version discovered in the previous step.
    • cd /tmp/vmware-tools-distrib/
    • sudo ./vmware-install.pl -dNote: The -d switch assumes that you want to accept the defaults. If you do not use -d, press Return to accept each default or supply your own answers.
  3. Run this command to reboot the virtual machine after the installation completes:sudo reboot

ปัญหา Chrome 18 กับ Flash Video

คนที่อัพเดต Google Chrome 18 หลายคนเจอปัญหาเวลาเล่นวีดีโอที่เป็น Flash Player จาก Youtube จะมีแถบสีเขียวด้านบนทุกไฟล์วีดีโอ และภาพวีดีโอจะดีเหลื่อมๆ เหมือนมีภาพซ้อนเหมือนภาพประกอบ

ติดตั้ง Windows 7, Windows 8 และ Windows XP

ผมเจอปัญหาในการติดตั้ง 3 OS โดยผมติดตั้งเรียงลำดับดังนี้ Windows 7, Windows 8 และ Windows XP ปัญหาคือตอนติดตั้ง Windows XP ถ้าเราสร้าง Partition ใหม่โดยใช้ Windows XP จะทำให้ Partition ที่สร้างไว้ก่อนหน้านี้หายทั้งหมดและ boot เข้า Windows อะไรไม่ได้เลย

วิธีแก้หลังจาก partition หายไปแล้ว
ให้ใช้แผ่นติดตั้ง Windows 8 จากนั้นเลือกหัวข้อ Rapair > Advance Option > Automatic Repair เนสก็จะได้ partition และ OS ทั้งหมดกลับคืนมา

วิธีป้องกันปัญหานี้
ต้องใช้ Windows 7 สร้าง partition ขึ้นมาใหม่ให้ Windows XP (ใช้ Windows 8 ไม่ได้) จากนั้นก็ติดตั้ง Windows XP โดยไม่ต้องไปยุ่งกับการแก้ไข partition ให้เลือก partition ที่เราสร้างไว้แล้ว format และติดตั้งตามปกติ จากนั้นก็ใช้แผ่น windows 8 มา repair เพื่อให้เลือก boot ได้ทุก OS

ปัญหา MultiOS

ผมติดตั้ง Windows 7 ไว้บน Notebook หลังจากนั้นก็เพิ่งติดตั้ง Windows 8 Consumer Preview ซึ่งก็ใช้งานได้ปกติ จนเมื่ออาทิตย์ก่อนผมลอง update firmware iLO ปรากฏว่าทำไม่ได้ทั้ง IE9 บน Windows 7 และ IE10 บน Windows 8 แต่กลับใช้ IE8 บน Windows XP ได้ วันนี้ผมเลยจะติดตั้ง Windows XP เพิ่มลงไปอีกใน Partition ที่เหลืออยู่ 30GB

ตอนติดตั้ง Windows XP ก็เลือกสร้าง Partition ตรงส่วนที่เป็น unuse space แต่พอสร้างกลับกลายเป็นว่ามองเห็นแค่ Partition ที่สร้างขึ้นมาใหม่ส่วน partition ที่มีอยู่หายไปหมด ผมเลยลบ Partition ที่สร้างใหม่ทิ้งแล้ว restart เครื่องก็ไม่สามารถ boot OS ได้ แผ่นติดตั้ง Windows XP ก็เป็นว่าไม่มี Partition เหมือนเดิม

ผมเลย boot ด้วย Flash Drive ที่เอาไว้ติดตั้ง Windows 8 แล้วเลือก repair ระบบใหม่หลังจากผ่านไปพักนึงระบบทั้งหมดทั้ง Windows 7, Windows 8 และข้อมูลทั้งหมดใน Drive ที่เก็บ Data ก็กลับมาใช้งานได้เหมือนเดิมครับ

iDRAC 6

ผมใช้ iLO มาหลายปีตั้งแต่ iLO ถึง iLO 3 วันนี้เพิ่งได้ลองใช้ iDRAC 6 ถ้าพูดในแง่ของ feature นี่ก็ใกล้เคียงกันคือเป็นการ Remote ผ่าน Hardware สามารถเปิดปิดเครื่อง, แก้ไข BIOS, ติดตั้ง OS หรือ การ mount ไฟล์ทั้ง DVD, ISO, HDD หรือแม้แต่ Floppy Disk

สิ่งที่แตกต่างจาก iLO คือ vFlash ซึ่งเป็นการสร้าง Boot Partition บน SD Card เราสร้างได้หลาย Partition และเลือกได้ว่าจะให้ mount partition ไหนบ้างและ boot จาก partition ไหน โดยวิธีสร้างค่อนข้างง่ายคือเราแค่เลือก ISO ไฟล์ ตัว iDRAC ก็จะสร้าง Partition ให้เอง แต่มีข้อจำกัดคือขนาดของ ISO ไม่เกิน 2GB แปลว่าเราติดตั้ง Windows 2008 ขึ้นไปไม่ได้
